Flying the Canadian flag high is Pascal Lefrancois; the pro poker player won the record-breaking LIVE MILLIONS grand finale. When the tournament kicked off, the 31-year-old was in the lead to win CAD$2.6 million.
Despite heavy competition from US Poker Open MVP Stephen Chidwick, 888poker ambassador Dominik Nitsche and short stacked Adam Owen; Lefrancois emerged victorious. However, Owen did give him a good run for the lead in a heads-up play.
Canada Cheers for Pascal Lefrancois
The Montreal born pro poker player was cheered on by a French-Canadian rail which added to the excitement of the final table. However, Lefrancois was pretty modest about his win. He said: “you see these events and you don’t think you can win”; he added: “I tried to keep my focus.”
Lefrancois was noted as the greatest multi-table tournament player in the world, by fellow poker player Jonathan Duhamel. In this tournament, Lefrancois defeated 1 175 other poker players to win Barcelona Casino’s record amount of CAD$2.6 million. In addition, this win breaks his previous career record of CAD$635 011.
2018 partypoker’s LIVE MILLIONS and Winners
The record-breaking event was held in Europe’s favourite poker place Barcelona Casino. It awarded more than CAD$46, 824,300 in prize money and is rumoured to be one of pokers recurrent events.
The final table results included runner-up Adam Owen, who won just over CAD$ 2million; while Stephen Chidwick won CAD$1.5 MILLION. In an interview, Chidwick thanked his family and dedicated his win to his granddad. He said: “If I hadn’t grown up playing card games, board games and even video games with him, then I maybe wouldn’t be here now.”
Other well-known faces included triple crown champion Davidi Kitai, four-time WSOP winner Dominik Nitsche, Diogo Veiga and Thomas Boivin.
