During the period of 2004 to 2012, the name Eva Longoria was on everybody’s lips, the world over. The reason for this is two words – Desperate Housewives, a hit ABC series which resulted in Longoria’s rise to fame.
Eva Longoria played Gabrielle Solis, a sexy and fiery Latina that starts off cheating on her husband but transforms into a faithful mother and wife. The show garnered many fans, and all the leading ladies received many accolades. Longoria received numerous nominations and won the prestigious Screen Actors Guild award, that was shared with the rest of the cast from Desperate Housewives. She also won the popular Teen Choice Award for Choice TV Actress: Comedy.
However, Longoria isn’t only known for her rocking body or her acting; her philanthropy also spans the globe. In 2006 she founded Eva’s Heroes, a charity committed to developing and helping mentally challenged children.
Eva Longoria, Eva’s Heroes and Poker
So, how does this affect the casino industry you ask, well Eva’s Heroes hosts a fundraising charity poker event annually. Imagine rubbing shoulders or better yet pulling your best poker face on Hollywood’s finest! Would seem like a dream come true right, and for the children that the charity helps, we are certain that they can relate to dreams coming true.
This year the charity poker tournament featured the fire and ice theme and music by Finding Friday. The highlight of the event was the $300 buy-in poker tournament, won by Walt Ruman. The winnings were donated to Eva’s Heroes by Ruman who won a seat in the 2018 World Series of Poker Main Event.
The event has multiple casino brands as sponsors; all vying for brand recognition and promotion but also a good cause.
Eva’s Heroes Not the Only Ones to Get in on the Charity Poker Cause
With 2017 drawing to an end we can safely say that the year has been a strong one for the charity poker cause. Despite Ferguson’s bracelet win saga, the poker industry is booming with heart softening stories involving charities.
In an effort to raise funds for those affected by hurricane Irma, Pokerstars and Seminole Hard Rock Casino teamed up to host a charity poker tournament. Another example of a heart-warming story is 888poker and their collaboration with REG; together they raised $91, 225 for the Against Malaria Foundation.
